No Action Just Yet on Baghdad, U.S. Says

Bush administration officials have made it clear Wednesday that U.S. military action against Iraq, Iran or North Korea is not close at hand despite President George W. Bush’s warning that he would not stand idle as these countries threatened U.S. security.

The White House spokesman, Ari Fleischer, said Wednesday that Mr. Bush, in his State of the Union address, on Tuesday, was ‘‘not sending a signal that military action is imminent.’’ Mr. Fleischer said the comments had been an ‘‘expression of how serious the president takes protecting our country.’’ Mr. Bush told Congress in his State of the Union address on Tuesday that Iraq, Iran and North Korea, accused by the administration of trying to develop biological, chemical and nuclear weapons, form an ‘‘axis of evil’’ and that time was running out for the United States to counter the danger.Full Story...
